Mashed Cauliflower

Everyone has heard of the classic side dish mashed potatoes. I’m sure most of us have this on thanksgiving and some of us might have it even more. Even though mashed potatoes aren’t BAD for you they aren’t necessarily a superfood either.

No surprise, but Trader Joes has created a cauliflower version of the dish. I know you are probably thinking EWW, but this side dish was honestly so good.

The cooking process is super easy. The cauliflower comes in tiny circular chunks which makes it easy to thaw and easy to store if you do not want to cook the whole bag. All it takes is putting the cauliflower mixed with some water on the stove and after 8-9 minutes it is ready!

The dish is very clearly cauliflower. It does not look exactly like mashed potatoes but it does create a creamy comforting appeal. If you like chunkier mashed potatoes then this dish is for you. It was actually super delicious and healthy.

If you are looking for a low calorie comfort food then I highly recommend this. Each serving is only 50 calories and full of the health benefits of cauliflower. The 16 oz bag is only $2.99 so it is really affordable. I rate this item a 8/10.

Chocolate Croissants

Desert for breakfast? Who doesn’t enjoy that. I have a huge sweet tooth and these chocolate croissants are the perfect fix!

I must admit I was a little disappointed when I realized that the croissants had to be taken out of the freezer for nine hours… NINE HOURS before being put in the oven. Since I am impatient I took them out of the freezer before I went to sleep and let them rise overnight.

The next morning the croissants were ready to be cooked. After 20-25 minutes in the oven and 10 minutes of cooling it was finally time for me to try these exciting treats.

DELICIOUS. I said to my mom after my first bite. These croissants were fluffy and warm with a rich chocolate in the middle that melted in my mouth with each bite. After finishing it I wanted to eat another one but there is only four croissants in each box and I have a family of four… so you see the problem.

I was pleasantly surprised by these croissants. They tasted fantastic and if you are someone who is willing to wait 9 hours before eating them then you should give these a try! They come in a box of four for the price of $4.49. I would rate them a 9/10.

Reduced Guilt Mac and Cheese

Do you ever buy something and then you realize when you got home it’s not what you thought it was? Well that is what happened with me and this mac and cheese. In my defense Trader Joes can be a war zone on Saturdays. I was trying to be fast and smooth so when I saw mac and cheese in the frozen section I grabbed it and threw it into the cart.

It wasn’t until I got home to un pack the groceries I realized that what I actually got was reduced guilt mac and cheese. I would be lying if I say I was not a little disappointed, but I was still willing to give it a try.

Sadly this is not the most exciting product of theirs I have ever tried, but I must say I was expecting worse. To my surprise it tasted exactly like regular mac and cheese. It was creamy, rich, and honestly did satisfy my mac and cheese craving.

The convenience of the meal was nice. The instructions tell you to microwave the mac and cheese on high for 3-4 minutes and then letting it rest for 1 minute before eating. The meal in total is only 270 calories, but I must say it was more like a snack than a meal to me.

I would say if you are trying to watch your weight, but are craving some mac and cheese then this is something you should try. If you are a late night snacker like me this is a good option as well. Overall I would give this product a 5/10. It was good just nothing special.

Peanut Butter Blondies

Sometimes it’s hard to decide whether to eat something savory or sweet. Trader Joe’s has made this decision easy for us. They have created a spin on the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich and mixed it with the classic blondie. Therefore brought us the peanut butter blondie.

These blondies are strawberry filled topped with a crispy peanut butter confection. The taste of these treats is unreal. Each bite brings a sweet wave of flavor from the strawberry jelly followed by a little bit of salt from the peanut butter. It will leave you wanting to eat more than the serving size (2 blondies).

I only had one issue with the delicious treats and it was probably my fault because I am impatient. To eat these, Trader Joe’s instructs us to either defrost in the refrigerator for four hours, leave at room temperature for one hour, or microwave for thirty seconds. I of course could not resist and popped one in the microwave for thirty seconds. This left it kind of mushy and melted. I enjoyed the blondie much more when I left it out for 1 hour.

As a peanut butter lover this has been my favorite Trader Joe’s product so far. The treats come in a box of 12 for $4.99 a box. Overall I would give this product a 10/10. Way to go Trader Joe’s!

Vegan kale, cashew, and basil pesto

I have never really understood what pesto is meant for. Is it a dip? A sauce? or maybe even a spread? The unknown of what it is truly meant for has left me turning a cold shoulder to the green substance. That being said after trying this Trader Joes vegan kale, cashew, and basil pesto I have realized there is no need to place it into one category.

The first time I tried this pesto was actually with eggs. I know you are probably thinking eww. I have to admit it was an odd pairing, but my mom recommended it and it was delicious! The pesto is very fresh tasting and the texture is much less oily than normal pesto which I liked a lot. The sauce is made up of kale, olive oil, water, basil, cashew butter, garlic, lemon juice, sea salt, and black pepper.

After trying it for the first time I was hooked. I have now tried it with eggs, spread on toast, mixed in with pasta, and even sautéed with vegetables. The sauce is priced at 3.69. If you are thinking that is expensive for the size of the container don’t worry because a little bit of the sauce goes a long way. Overall this product is the most surprising Trader Joes product I have tried. It is a solid 7/10.

Cauliflower Gnocchi

Calling all cauliflower lovers! If you are someone who loves comfort food then this is an item perfect for you.

Many of you have probably tried the classic Italian dish, Gnocchi. Traditional Gnocchi are small dumplings made from potatoes and flower. The potatoes are then mashed and mixed with flower to create a dough thats formed into small little pieces that are then boiled. These delicious little lumps are then mixed with different sauces, vegetables, and meats to make different dishes.

Why should I try cauliflower gnocchi over regular gnocchi? This cauliflower gnocchi will give you the same satisfaction of eating regular gnocchi, but with way more health benefits. The cauliflower gnocchi from Trader Joes is soft, delicious, satisfying, and you are getting a serving of vegetables in your meal without even knowing it! It is made with 75% cauliflower, with some cassava flour, potato starch, extra virgin olive oil, and sea salt. There is no wheat, sugar, dairy, or eggs in this frozen meal!

Before I cooked the cauliflower gnocchi I did some research online on the best way to cook it. The number one advice was to NOT follow the instructions on the bag. Apparently if you do this then your gnocchi will come out mushy and stuck together. Instead cook it this way:

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil or butter (I used olive oil)
  2. Add frozen gnocchi straight from the bag into the skillet
  3. Let the gnocchi sit undisturbed for 2-3 minutes
  4. The gnocchi will unstick from each other on their own
  5. Once the gnocchi starts to turn golden brown on the bottom flip them
  6. Flip the gnocchi letting them saute, and shake the skillet every minute or so until the gnocchi is golden brown all over
  7. This whole thing should take around 7-8 minutes

After the gnocchi is cooked you can add whatever sauce, vegetable, or other topping you would want! Personally, I used a classic red tomato sauce and it was delicious. I would for sure recommend trying this product! A solid 9/10.

Cold Brew Latte Dessert Bars

What is a cold brew latte dessert bar? It is delicious cold brew coffee formed into a satisfying little frozen dessert. If you are a coffee lover then these bars are perfect for you. They give off an amazing coffee flavor mixed with a little bit of sweetness. Not only are these bars delicious but they are on the healthier side as well! Each bar is only 40 calories so there will be no guilt after eating one (or three) of these tasty treats! The bars come in a box of five for $1.99, and let me tell you they are worth it! I really enjoyed these dessert bars and will most definitely be getting them again. Overall I would rate these a 8/10. Next Trader Joe’s item to be reviewed is vegan kale, cashew, and basil pesto!
